The ILS Hariyali (Environmental Law Cell) pursues activities that promote healthy environment. These include cleanliness drives, debates and quizzes on environment matters, planting trees, and most importantly discussions and critical analysis of legal provisions in India that affect the environment. The main purpose of the cell is to study intricately the relationship between law and environment. It aims to endorse the application of the environmental provisions of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in our daily lives and to create a cleaner and safer environment to sustain and live.
The year kick-started with the inaugural on 15th June 2015 followed by a session discussing Hariyali. It was followed with numerous sessions on the practice of Massacre of Blue Whales, The Yulin Festival and the practice of Cow Slaughter and “Paper Tigers and Invisible Man” by students.
Hariyali had its 1st National Seminar on 29th August 2015 which had eminent speakers like Mr. Ajay Despande (NGT Western Bench, Pune), Dr. Madhav Gadgil, Mr. Neeraj Vagholikar and Prof. Shyam R. Asolekar (IIT Bombay) on the same platform discussing “The Current issues in Environmental Law in India”.
Hariyali collaborated with Kirloskar Vasundhara International Film Festival(KVIFF) and launched a project “ECO-RANGERS”. Under the same, Hariyali organized a Conference on the theme “The Role and Rule of Environmental Law in Smart City Project” with Mr. D.T. Devale (Sr. Law Officer, MPCB), Ms. Supriya Dangare (NGT, Pune) and Mr. Sarang Yadwadkar as the resource persons. The members of Eco-Rangers also participated in various activities conducted by KVIFF. The cell now plans to work on a research project on Solid-Waste Management.
