Call for Articles, Essays/Presentations, Case Analysis and Legislative Comments

Open to all the students from LLB, BALLB and LLM

The ILS Abhivyakti Law Journal offers a platform for students to present their interest and skills in legal research and writing. It is an opportunity for them to showcase their critical thinking, writing and legal analysis, in a subject of their choice, by taking up a topic to work upon.

To enable the students at ILS Law College to begin their legal writing journey, the editorial board of ALJ is inviting submissions for the 2023-24 edition of the law journal. Students may undertake to write on a topic of their choice, in any of the following forms:

  1. Articles: between 2500 to 3000 words, single author or max. 2 co-authors

Articles can be on any topic of law. It should not have been published before in any other journals or online platforms (including blogs). It should be original and any work copied should be quoted and cited.

  1. Essays/Presentations: between 1000 to 1500 words, single author

Essays/Presentations may be on topics or themes of law that the author may have presented in the college during academic lectures or ILS cell/center/club sessions. It should be original and comprehensive of the theme.

  1. Moot Case Articles: between 2500 to 3000 words, single author or max. 3 co-authors (Speakers, Researcher)

Whether you win or lose the moot competition is immaterial. Make sure the hours you put into research do not go to waste. Convert the moot memorial into an article and send in your submission.

  1. Case Analysis: between 1000 to 1500 words, single author

Case Analysis should be of recent judgements of the Supreme Court, High Courts and Tribunals since January 2022. The case analysis should include brief facts, issues involved, arguments in brief and the ratio, along with the reasoning and should conclude with author’s critique.

  1. Legislative Comments: between 750 to 800 words, single author

Legislative Comments should be on the recent legislations of Parliament and State Legislatures (restricted only to the Acts, Bills and Ordinances). The legislative comment should mention briefly the legislative proceeding details (like who introduced the Bill, date of its passage and commencement of the Act), highlights of the Act and should conclude with author’s critique.

Formatting and Citation Style:

  1. Main text: MS Word, Times New Roman, 12pt, 1.5 spacing; Footnote: MS Word, Times New Roman, 10pt, 1.0 spacing
  2. Citation style: The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (20th edition)

  1. Word limit is exclusive of footnotes for all submissions.
  2. Submissions not complying with the formatting guidelines shall be subject to outright rejection.
  3. The plagiarism threshold for the submission is max. 15% plagiarized (i.e., 85% unique).

Submission Details:

  1. The last date for submission is April 30, 2024.
  2. Mention Name, Class, Email ID, Mobile Number of the author(s) and the Title/Heading of the submission in a Cover Letter in a separate document, to be sent along with the main submission. DO NOT include any personal details in the body of the main submission.
  3. Send your submissions to [email protected]
  4. The subject of the mail should be “Submission: <titleofwork>, <name(s)>”
  5. Every Author must make a declaration of originality, by stating in the body of the email; ‘The work attached below is original and not plagiarised, intentionally or otherwise. Further, this submission has not been previously published in any Journal, Blog or any other publication.’
  6. Authors must send the submission mail from their ILS email IDs and mark the co-authors, if any, in cc.
