The Centre for Public Law is proud to host a session titled ‘Clemency and Capital Punishment in India: A Research Journey’ by our alumnus Mr Bikramjeet Batra, Research Associate at SOAS School of Law, London.
Despite clemency and capital punishment raising important socio-legal questions, there had been little credible research in India until recently. The public debate on these issues has therefore historically been largely influenced by opinions, anecdotes and distortions. In this talk, Mr Batra will discuss the journey that led to his research on clemency and capital punishment in India. The talk will also focus on the various modes of research used and reflect on how the evidence gathered influenced his views on the issues.
