Raghavendra Phadnis Essay Writing, Case Comment & Legislative Comment Competition : A.Y. 2023-24


ILS Law College, Pune is pleased to announce the annual Raghavendra Phadnis Essay Writing, Case Comment, and Legislative Comment Competition, 2023-24. The competition comprises of three events, i.e. Essay Writing, Case Comment, and Legislative Comment. Students may submit entries for all three, if they choose to. The topics for this year’s competition are as follows:

Essay Writing:

  • Efficacy of Anti-Defection Law in Protecting the Democratic Choice of the Voters
  • Affirmative Action as an Policy Tool to Address Inequalities
  • Legal and Policy Issues in Sustainable Urbanization within India

Case Comment:

  • In re Article 370 of the Constitution – 2023 SCC OnLine SC 1647.
  • Shilpa Sailesh v. Varun Sreenivasan – 2023 SCC OnLine SC 544.
  • Supriyo v. Union of India – 2023 SCC OnLine SC 1348.

Legislative Comment:

  • The Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 –

The submissions should conform to the following guidelines:

  • Word Limit: 3000-3500 words (Maximum).
  • Font: Times New Roman
  • Font Size (Text) – 12
  • Font Size (Footnotes) – 10
  • Line Spacing: 1.5
  • Footnoting style  – Bluebook 21st Edition

The last date for the submission of the entries is 12th March 2024. All entries must be sent to [email protected] by 23:59 p.m. on that date. The Subject of the Email should state ‘R.Phadnis [Essay Writing/Case Comment/Legislative Comment] Entry’.

The Winner and Runner up for each category shall be given E-certificates of Recognition, and the winning entries in each category shall be eligible for publication in the ILS Abhivyakti Law Journal (subject to the decision of the editorial board).

All entries are subject to a plagiarism check and shall stand to be disqualified if the similarity index is higher than 15%.
